Created by Poetic Kinetics and the Fire In Balance Burning Man crew, this crowd-funded installation expanded on the studio's earlier Holding Flame project.
An inverted firebox hung inside a pagoda-like steel frame, surrounded by fire dishes and towers. Heat pulled the flames upward while oxygen entered from below, revealing movement rarely seen in an open fire.
A laser-cut steel facade gave the pavilion its mysterious nighttime presence, while the all-steel construction offered a close view of the science and behavior of fire. By day, the structure provided welcome shade in the high desert; at night, its elevated deck, recessed seating, and intimate stage became a warm gathering place for conversation and spontaneous performances.
