Poetic Kinetics Brings Three Kinetic Aerial Installations to Downtown Denver
Poetic Kinetics is bringing three site-specific kinetic aerial installations to Downtown Denver in summer 2026 as part of a major public art initiative supported by the Denver Downtown Development Authority. A New Public Art Experience for Downtown Denver
Poetic Kinetics will bring a series of large-scale kinetic aerial artworks to Downtown Denver in summer 2026, creating an evolving public art experience across several prominent locations in the city center.
The temporary installations are part of a collaboration involving Denver Arts & Venues, the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure, and the Denver Downtown Development Authority. The DDDA is funding the initiative, while Denver Arts & Venues is coordinating with the artist team and city partners to support its delivery.
Suspended above public spaces, the installations will constantly shift in response to natural wind currents. Their changing forms mean that no two encounters with the artworks will be exactly the same.
Three Skynet Installations Across Downtown Denver
The initiative includes three site-specific works by Patrick Shearn and Poetic Kinetics:
Sun Splash
Denver Union Station / Wynkoop
Inspired by the intense Denver sun and the constant movement surrounding Union Station, Sun Splash contrasts structured urban geometry with a fluid canopy transformed by the wind.
Skyline Drift
Skyline Park
Skyline Drift responds to Denver’s high-altitude breezes and surrounding architecture with sweeping, colorful forms designed to create a floating oasis within the downtown landscape.
Quaking Gold
Glenarm Plaza
Inspired by Colorado’s golden aspen canopies in autumn, Quaking Gold translates shimmering leaves and clear blue skies into a kinetic aerial composition moving above downtown Denver.
Connecting Art, City and Community
The broader Denver initiative is designed as a multi-site public art experience that encourages visitors to move through Downtown Denver, connecting major commercial and civic areas while supporting activity at street level.
According to the official Denver announcement, the installations are planned for a four-month period and will be positioned at highly visible downtown sites connected through the city’s transportation network.
The constantly moving artworks are intended not only as visual landmarks but as shared public experiences—bringing art outside traditional cultural spaces and into the everyday movement of the city.
Investment in Downtown Public Art
On February 13, 2026, the Denver Downtown Development Authority approved a $627,500 grant toward the design and installation of the aerial art initiative.
The project is being developed in collaboration with:

Installation was anticipated to begin in early summer 2026 according to the original February 2026 announcement.
Public Art with Measurable Impact
The Denver announcement also highlights Poetic Kinetics’ previous impact in Colorado.
A Poetic Kinetics installation in Green Mountain Falls attracted more than 100,000 visitors during its four-month installation and coincided with a 36% year-over-year increase in sales tax revenue, according to the official Denver announcement.
